Sandra F. Smith

Family Tribute:Sandra,

It has been the most painful thing that I have done so far is to take care of your death wishes. But it is with great pleasure that I do it for you. You always have been so private and it is with honor that I invade your privacy.

With all discoveries that I did I want to emphasize that you just grew in my memories and in my heart.

I always admired you, your personality, your beauty, your mind and your hunger for life.

Love always,

Tadeu e Carlos

Sandra Fajardo Smith: Happy in New York

Sandra Fajardo Smith heard that her dear cousin, Wanda Fajardo, was feeling lonely and wanted to return to their native Brazil to celebrate her 43rd birthday, she would have none of it. Stay in New York, she told Wanda. Let me organize a birthday party. Trust me, you’ll have a good time.

Ms. Smith was right. She was good at cheering people up. She was effervescent, always smiling. She loved her job as an accountant at Marsh & McLennan, loved working out at the gym, loved all of the city’s cultural offerings.

But she especially loved her cousin. The two had grown up together, in a small inland town, and had come to New York more than a decade ago. And even though Ms. Smith was seven years younger, Ms. Fajardo relied increasingly on Ms. Smith for advice. 'Sandra was so strong, so mature, and there was no one that I trusted more,' said Ms. Fajardo, whose birthday party took place on Sept. 9. 'She was like my therapist. I told her everything. Now, I don’t know who I’m going to talk to.'

It's been a while but, trust me, I haven't forgotten. The bracelet my friends bought for me is on my nightstand and I think of you, along with my other colleagues who were lost that day. I'm sure your family hurts this time every year.

Though we worked in different departments, on completely different sides of the floor...it'd always brighten my day to stop by and say hello to Sandra. I'd always follow up with a few jokes and we'd swap stories about travel. In my heart, Sandra will be remembered as a beautiful Soul. I still have the (2)handwritten notes of places she wanted me to visit in Egypt, a place I intend to visit one day when stability returns to that region. I'll never forget her.

I never met Sandra but I have a bracelet with her name on it. It was selected for me by a friend during a tour of the WTC last year. My friend knew I worked for Marsh and picked it out from a list of all the victims of the tragedy on September 11, 2001. My heart aches for Sandra's family, her friends and colleagues at Marsh. While I don't wear the bracelet it is on my beside table and I include her in my thoughts and prayers just as I do those that I had known and worked with. The tributes here give me some idea of how special she was and I wish I had known her.

Sandra- I miss you so so much. You were truly my best friend. We always looked out for each other and we laughed at the same corny jokes.I missed your cooking, your smile, working with you, your stories of your travel, sharing clothes, the stories of relationships and more. You were the most genuine real person I had ever met. You were always honest and never fake. You always cared for others and always helped others with no strings attached. You were my beautiful sister. I know, if you were here today, we will still be best friends and our relationship would last a lifetime....not just for a season. You were one of a kind.

Although we have never met, I heard a lot about this woman maybe for she's brazilian... I remember I read somewhere about her. Today I work in the same company she used to work before the tragedy. Well, I know she's now somewhere a lot better, by hearing her real friends' testemonials we can see how nice and special she was. Thanks

My wife and I think of Sandra often when we make our small barbeque's, she used to love to join us for dinner and we used to love to have her over. She was so full of life and we miss her. We hope she is in a better place. My final words for Sandra are 'Known to Many, Loved by All, and In our Hearts Forever'

It's not a cliche to say that Sandra was so full of life and excitement. She loved to travel and explore. In her short time here, she lived life to the fullest and found pleasure in everything she did. I often wished to have some of her energy for life. Surely you are missed Sandra.
