Rudolph Mastrocinque

He did not want to miss a minute of the soccer goalie clinic he was running later that night, so Rudolph Mastrocinque arrived at his office in the World Trade Center early on the morning of Sept. 11.

As his wife, Meryl, put it, "soccer was his life."

It started out as something for the children, Peter, 11, and Amy, 16. But one day a group of parents got together to play and someone noticed how quick Mr. Mastrocinque’s feet were. He went on to become one of the most enthusiastic members of the Kings Park Soccer Club on Long Island, and coached several children’s teams.

When he was not playing soccer, "he’d be telling me joke after joke after joke," Mrs. Mastrocinque said. "Rudy was very funny."

Mr. Mastrocinque was 43 and a vice president for property claims at Marsh & McLennan. Mrs. Mastrocinque talked him into buying a boat "to find some relaxation on the water" after his long hours at the office. He did, and fishing on Long Island Sound became one of his favorite things to do — second only, perhaps, to soccer.

I had the honor of working with Rudy, who was well liked and respected by his colleagues, clients and vendors. Everything in his life had special meaning, his family, his job, and soccer and he approached all of this with a deep passion. Rudy and his family will have a permanent place in my prayers.

Although I personally did not know Rudy, I do recall my Grandmother talking of him at reunions. From all of the Mastrocinque family in the New York, New Jersey and Connecticutarea, we send our regards. Rest in peace Rudy, you will be missed.

My name is Candace Nelson. Today is September 11, 2002. This morning, I attended a gathering put together by a local radio station in San Diego, where I live. Each person that came to this gathering would have the honor of reading the name of a person lost one year ago, on live radio. At random, I was given a button that said Rudolph Mastrocinque, 43, WTC. I had the privilege of being chosen to say these things about him. The rest of the day I wore this button, in his honor. I took pictures at the event, including the moment I said his name, and when I rung the freedom bell for him. If anyone who knew him is interested in seeing these pictues, I would be more than happy to email them to you. I feel so connected to Rudolph Mastrocinque now, and I would love to contact his family, or have one of them contact me. I wish everyone who knew him my best wishes, and my deepest regrets. Sincerely, Candace
