Mary Boffa

Mary Boffa’s hobby was her sprawling, close-knit family. She had 3 sisters and nearly 30 first cousins. They provided plenty to do on weekends. When she was growing up on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, there was always a cousin to play with. Her father was a blue-collar worker at Western Electric and her mother was a school cafeteria worker. At age 45, Ms. Boffa was an associate vice president for Marsh & McLennan, the financial services conglomerate in 1 World Trade Center. She had recently separated from her husband and moved into a two-bedroom apartment on Staten Island. It had a view of the Verazzano-Narrows Bridge. She had new furniture. "She was very excited," said her nephew, Michael Trudeau. "It was renewal for her."

On this 8th anniversary of this terrible tragedy, I still miss working with you. I will always remember your smile and the way you made me feel welcome when I attended meetings in New York.

I must confess that I really did not know Mary very well, but several years ago I worked for a printer that had MMC as its main client. Mary came to our then-Soho office to discus the project we were working on. Sadly, it happened to be the borchure regarding the company's big move from Broad St. to the WTC. She was such a nice lady with an upbeat personality. This is such a shame.

It was a pleasure when our jobs at MMC in Midtown brought Mary and I together. Even though we only saw each other at work, I considered Mary a friend. I will always miss her warmth and her beautiful smile.

I was a friend of Mary Boffa's for many years. Her smile is always with me. This is a terrible loss for all concerned.

Mary loved to party and had a good sense of humor. We enjoyed a few laughs at Marsh. I attended her memorial and from the listening to her family's words of remembrance, I knew she would be sorely missed.
